| There are many types and styles of handsets
in today's office environment, some used on a 24 hour basis.
Many units, therefore, are used by more than one employee.
They can be a major source of germs with a risk of transmitting
infection. They should be cleaned regularly.
First, the whole instrument is dusted. Then
the surfaces are cleaned with a germicidal fluid using a damp
brush, paying particular attention to the ear and mouth piece,
grooves, crevices and around the number buttons and, where
possible, the cable.
Ink stains or label adhesive on the unit
are removed where possible.
The unit is dried using a cloth to remove
all traces of dirt and moisture.
